 Suggestions for other Experiments

In the example a calibration was performed. Such a measurement should always beperformed for the performance of the instrument should be checked. Furthermore a profile measurement was performed for a laminar flow in a horizontally positioned, cylindrical flow tube. In this section some other experiments will be suggested.

Profile Measurements in the Turbulent Regime

One may measure the velocity profile for different velocities in both the laminar and the turbulent regime. It was mentioned in the section theory that the Navier-Stokes equation can be solved analytically only for the laminar regime. Some general characteristics of the profile in the turbulent regime, relative to the laminar regime were mentioned however and they can be checked experimentally.

In the first place the velocity may vary highly in both direction and magnitude, even on scales comparible to those of the measurement volume. This should have its consequences for the quality of the measurement.

Furthermore it was noted that in the turbulent regime the kinetic energy is distributed more effectively than in the laminar regime. On the basis of that notion one may expect the change of regime to have a severe effect on the velocity profile.
