			<description>Stefan Lehmann, PhD student in the Division of Physical Chemistry and the research group of Atoms, Molecules and Lasers, developed a new laser technique that can very accurately detect chiral molecules. This method also allows for purity measurements of enantiomers with enhanced sensitivity and selectivity. His PhD defense is on 16 May.

			<description>Het tot nog toe vrij onbekende Triatoma Virus zou ingezet kunnen worden als pesticide om de insectenplaag waardoor de tropische ziekte van Chagas zich verspreidt, onder controle te krijgen. Een team van natuurkundigen, scheikundigen en biologen, onder leiding van FEW onderzoeker Wouter Roos, bestudeerden het virus tot in de kleinste details en publiceerden hun resultaten op 28 april in het toonaangevende tijdschrift Nature Chemistry.
