Cold Atoms and Quantum Gases

We apply laser cooling and trapping techniques to create ultracold quantum gases. Our speciality is cooling of helium in the metastable triplet state (He*, 20 eV internal energy). We have achieved a Bose-Einstein condensate of helium-4 atoms and degenerate Fermi gas of helium-3 atoms.

Currently we are working on two experimental setups:

* Ultracold He*

* Ultracold He*+Rb mixture
