The science-wide financial instrument Take-off stimulates activity and entrepreneurship from Dutch knowledge institutions. Academic entrepreneurs, but also starters from higher professional education institutions and starters who use knowledge from institutions for Applied Research Organizations (TO2), can bring their innovative research results to the market. Take-off is one of the tools for knowledge utilization that NWO carries out together with ZonMw.

Elizabeth von Hauff from the group Physics of Energy received a Take Off Phase 1 grant of 40k Euro for her project GlucoEasy. The project is hosted in the Demonstrator Lab at Vrije Universiteit with support of IXA.

Project description: Diabetes has become a global epidemic, and now 1 person in 11 has the disease. The first step in patient care is to maintain healthy glucose levels. Current technologies for monitoring glucose are invasive and unreliable. The aim of GlucoEasy is to develop a novel glucose sensor to detect glucose in sweat.
