Physics is an extremely broad and dynamic science. Our department consists of about 55 staff members and 70 postdocs and PhD students, and 350 students that follow bachelor and master degrees in Physics, Medical Natural Sciences and Science, Business and Innovation.

What is the physical basis for life around us? Here where the frontier is the ever more complex, on the interface of physics, chemistry, biology, and medicine, we study metabolic processes from the molecular to cellular to tissue level.

One of the major challenges of the next decades is the energy problem. Here physicists work on new ways of generating and storing energy.

The 21st century has been identified as the "century of the photon", and the boundaries of shorter, more precise and higher energy are sought here.

The frontier of high-energy physics is "the even smaller" and that of astrophysics is "the ever larger". Ultimate aim is to unravel the mechanisms underlying our present theory of particle physics and enhance our understanding of the structure and evolution of the cosmos.
