ferrule-top cantilever
Ferrule-top cantilevers are a larger version of fiber-top cantilevers. They are obtained by carving a mechanical beam out of a ferruled optical fiber. Thanks to their larger dimensions, they can be fabricated with processes that adapt well to series production. We are currently investigating utilization of ferrule-top devices for several applications, including atomic force microscopy, biochemical sensing, and measurements of pressure, vibrations, accelerations, temperature, humidity, refractive index, flows, and forces. We are also developing a hand-held ferrule-top indenter for medical applications.
